MANNFORD PIRATES
Coach: DUSTIN KINARD
Quick Hits:
The Pirates last playoff win was in 1990. Mannford defeated Glenpool 20-7 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Pirates were elminated in the next round by Locust Grove.
Mannford and Bristow have met every year since 2002. The battle of the Purple Pirates leans toward Bristow, which has won seven straight and 13 of 19.
OFFENSE
Last season was a struggle for the Mannford Pirates, but first-year head coach Dustin Kinard is ready to get the upcoming season underway and establish his plan for the Pirates. “On offense, we will do what our kids do best,” he said. “My offensive philosophy is always to establish the run and play a physical brand of football.” Leading the offense at quarterback will be Jake Moore (6-2, 185, Jr.). Tucker Hunsacker (5-9, 165, Sr.) will be at running back and will be Moore’s backup at quarterback. Protecting the front will be offensive linemen Braden Phillips (6-0, 220, Sr.) and Nate Hoppes (6-0, 240, Sr.). Weapons at Moore’s disposal will be Devin Phillips (6-2, 190, Sr.) at wide receiver and Caleb Hale (6-0, 180, Sr.) at running back.
DEFENSE
The Pirates bring back seven members of last season’s defensive squad. Coach Kinard hopes that with that much experience returning, it will allow the defense to play harder and tougher. “Our goal is to fly to the ball,” Kinard said. “We want to disrupt the opponent’s plan on offense.” Hunter Leonard (5-8, 135, Sr.) will be back at defensive back helping to cover the secondary. Phillips will be playing on both the offensive and defensive lines, while Moore will play linebacker along with quarterback.
