OFFENSE

Entering his eighth season leading the Perry Maroons, head coach Travis Cole says he is excited about this season. He says Perry has a lot of guys returning and several young guys that gained valuable experience last year. Cole admits there are some holes to fill in terms of production but believes they have the guys to step up and fill those gaps. Offensively, eight starters return to this spread offense. Cole says the Maroons will look to establish the run, including with the quarterback. Helping establish the rushing attack are four returning offensive linemen, Wyatt Farthing (6- 4, 250, So.), Chris Ryan (5-10, 215, Jr.), Cash Warren (5-10, 220, So.), and Ethan Hughes (6-1, 185, Sr.). The guy likely tasked with running the offense from the quarterback position is Dezmond Williams (5-10, 165, Sr.). Williams played running back and wide receiver last season for Perry and tallied roughly 600 total yards of offense and six touchdowns. Running back Treg Bowman (5-11, 175, Jr.) returns for his junior season after totaling over 300 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore. Whelan Carson (6-4, 165, So.) is a big target that started every game as freshman and could break out this year.

DEFENSE

Defensively, Perry will use a 3-4 and 4-3 look to mix things up and bring pressure from different positions. Leading the defense is inside linebacker Treg Bowman. Bowman led the team in tackles last year with 131. He also had 23 tackles for loss at seven sacks. Joining Bowman at linebacker is Whelan Carson. He was second on the team in tackles with 123. He also had 15 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Carson also had an interception he returned for a touchdown. The outside linebackers include Kaleb Owen (5-9, 175, Sr.) and Jackson Stoops (6-3, 175, So.). Owen and Stoops combined for 131 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and four sacks last season. Roaming the secondary is Dezmond Williams. Williams will likely play in multiple defensive backfield spots. He had 41 tackles and three interceptions a year ago. Finally, leading the attack up front in defensive end Ethan Hughes. Hughes recorded 92 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and eight and half sacks a season ago. Assisting Cole this season are Jared Miner, Kyle Bengs, Jarod Coleman, and Mike Carmin.
