Perry Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by First Bank and Trust

After a tough regular season in duals, the Perry Maroons have finished the regular
season as district champs once again. The season started off with a, 25-45 defeat at the hands of El Reno, the fifth ranked team in Class 5A. The Maroons bounced back with a, 37-29 win over Blanchard on the road.

As the district schedule rolled around in January, the Maroons went on a run with
wins against Tonkawa, Pawnee-Hominy, Hennessey, and Oklahoma Christian School.
January was closed out with the Big 4+4 Tournament that featured several
Perry wrestlers making their way to the podium.

Wrestling at 175-pounds, Kaleb Owen finished the tournament in 2nd
place with wins over Jason Osgood of Blackwell, Jaxon Goddard of Ponca City,
and Jonavin Mullins of Elgin.

In the finals, Owen would fall to senior Holden Martin of Westmoore.
Treg Bowman placed 2nd in the 190-pound bracket picking up four falls
in a row over Noah Lloyd of Coweta (Fall 1:26), Kaiden Lewis of Ponca City (Fall 1:21), Asher Walls of Choctaw (Fall 1:34), and Jordan Cox of Westmoore (Fall 5:22).
In the finals Bowman would lose to Kruz Goff of Blackwell.

Other wrestlers making the podium included Carson Avery (120) 6th place,
Struass Karcher (138) 5th place, Chris Cordova (150) 4th place, Zane Ruth
(150) 8th place, Sutton Bonham (157) 6th place, Ethan Hughes (165) 4th place,
Cash Waren (215) 3rd place, and Manny Dolezal (285) 3rd place.

Sand Springs Tournament
The girls team brought home a 4th place finish at Charles Page High School with
Isabelle Stoops taking top honors at 140-pounds. Stoops defeated wrestlers
from Ponca City, Kiefer, Springdale AR, and Tuttle on her way to the big win.
Alyson Sykes made a memorable run taking 2nd place at 190-pounds. Sykes
fell to Alissa Castro of Springdale (Jr.), one of the top female wrestlers in
Arkansas, in the championship round.

Haylee Ingram’s 3rd place finish at 100-pounds was big for Perry. Ingram
(Fr.) picked up a nice win over Hannah Hall (So.) of Claremore (Fall 1:46). Grace
Byrd (Jr.) placed 4th at 155-pounds with a win over Alex Zimmerscheid (Jr.) of
Ponca City. Audra Coldiron (Fr.) placed 6th at 170-pounds after dropping the
fifth place match to Addily Shotwell (So.) of Sand Springs.
