OFFENSE

The Ponca City Wildcats are entering this season looking for a turnaround from a year ago. Head coach Scott Harmon says he likes what the team has coming back this season and he is looking for a lot of improvement. “We have a good mixture of a little bit of everything for the first time since I have been the coach here at Ponca City,” he said. “We have really good size, experience, and athleticism coming back. Overall, I think this will be a better season.” The Wildcats are bringing back seven starters on the offensive side of the ball, including Cayson Badley (6-5, 314, Sr.) and Kaleb Settle (5-11, 256, Sr.). Both started every game on the offensive line last season and look to be key members of the line this year too. In the backfield, Cam Jackson (5-6, 160, Jr.) is back after rushing for over 900 yards a year ago and Blake Bristow (5-6, 156, Jr.) ran for over 700 yards last season and they will both be looking to make an impact this season. Bringing consistency to the receiving corps, Bret Haney (6-4, 231, Sr.) will be back at the tight end position where he started all of last year.

DEFENSE

There will be a lot of familiar faces for Ponca City on the defensive side of the ball this season. Led by an experienced senior class, they will look to attack the ball and hold up opposing offenses. Coming back as strong safety is Devin Zimmerchied (5-10, 168, Sr.), who has registered over 150 career tackles. Harmon says that Devin is a one-of-a-kind player. “Zim is the best flat defender I have ever coached at any level,” the coach said. “He gives us great run support and makes the best plays against some of the best competition in the state.” Returning to be forces on the defensive line are Nate Collins (6-3, 312, Sr.) at nose guard and Trey Seward (5-11, 245, Sr.) at the defensive end positions.  Manning the middle of the defense again this season will be middle linebacker, Elijah Phillips (5-11, 246, Sr.), who tallied 68 tackles last season. Patrolling the back of the defense will be cornerback Tyson Dewberry (5-9, 162, Sr.) and Gabe Roland (6-1, 191, Jr.).
