Ponca City’s Karen Hunt: Mom of the Month Presented by Ponca City Real Estate

Parents play a big role in high school athletics. They do more than just transport their kid to practice and make sure they have what they need, they also help out the coaches and other parents when they can. Karen Hunt says that she enjoys being an athlete’s parent and is happy to volunteer wherever she can.

“When I am not hauling the boys to practice, I love to help feed the kids before and after games and make sure their needs are met,” she said. “I am usually involved in a fundraiser for different organizations to help provide the coaches and players with what they need. I currently serve as the Treasurer for the Ponca City Quarterback Football Club, and a member of the Dugout Club for baseball.”

Karen’s son Jackson is a sophomore at Ponca City High School, where he plays baseball for the Wildcats. He lettered as a freshman and he also plays baseball as a part of a travel team. He is also a member of the Wildcat football team and the Wildcat Fishing team. He served as a student council representative during his freshman year.

While she enjoys watching her son compete in sports, she also knows that he is learning a lot of valuable skills that will help him as he goes through life.

“I feel prioritizing your child’s activities builds a strong bond, and helps guide them for a successful process through school and after,” she said. “Sports not only help with health and wellness but also helps promote discipline on and off the field.”

Hunt has been a stay-at-home mom for several years but in her free time, she enjoys baking, spending time at the lake, and catching up with family. She says that the Ponca City school district has been a great place for her son to attend.

“I love all the different opportunities that our high school offers, in the classroom or on the field. Also, we are blessed to live in a community that supports our children and wants them to succeed.”
