OFFENSE

After a 12-2 record and a state quarterfinal run, the Woodland Cougars are ready for another deep run and believe they have the talent to do so. “Offensively, we want to establish the run game early by sustaining lengthy drives and wearing on defenses,” head coach Casey Goad said. Nathan Bouchard (5-11, 200, Jr.) will play running back for the Cougars and looks to get a lot of touches. On the line are returning starters Gunnar Gates (6-0, 265, Sr.), Jacob Brackett (5-11, 250, Sr.), and Lucian McKinney (6-5, 210, Sr.). McKinney has the potential to be a star for the Cougars, being a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. He is expected to be more involved in the pass game this season. Expected to start at quarterback is Aidan Rhodes (6-3, 175, Jr.) who tallied up 350 rushing yards and 106 passing yards for the Cougars a year ago and adding three touchdowns. Jackson Rhodes (6-2, 185, So.) is a player that had a great freshman season and is expected to be a huge part of both the offense and defense. He has a chance to be a special player at Woodland High School.

DEFENSE

The defense returns over half of their starters and brings back some players that were essential in their success in 2020. Rhodes led the team with 105 tackles as a freshman while playing linebacker and was joined by Bouchard who also played linebacker and recorded 70 tackles while adding a fumble recovery and an interception. Gates, McKinney, and Zane Brock (6-0, 185, Jr.) all play on the line, with Gates playing tackle and McKinney and Brock lining up at defensive end. Together, they combined for over 125 tackles. Jamie Jordan (6-2, 175, Sr.) plays defensive back for the Cougars and recorded 67 tackles and four interceptions in 2020. Look for the Cougar defense to utilize multiple looks out of their four front formation, and always playing as physical and aggressive as possible.
