Morrison’s Caleb Horne – Stillwater Area FFA spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Ag Credit

Caleb Horne first joined FFA in the eighth grade, now a junior and a varsity baseball player at Morrison High School, Horne said it was his family who encouraged him to join.

“Growing up I had always seen my dad’s pictures from when he was in FFA at my grandparents’ house and seeing that all my life made me start thinking about joining when the time was coming up. I knew that my grandpa had been an Ag teacher, and several of my family members own cattle, which I’ve always enjoyed being around and helping out with. So, when the opportunity came to join and learn more about FFA and Ag, I did,” said Horne.

Horne currently serves as chapter President at Morrison and has been involved in many activities during his time in FFA.

“During my time in FFA I have been in FFA Creed Speaking, Public Speaking, SAE (Turf Grass Management), Opening and Closing Ceremonies, The Greenhand Quiz, Agriscience Fair, Agriscience Quizbowl, FFA Bible Study, Farm Business Management, Dairy Judging, Swine Showing, Alumni Camp, MFE Leadership Training, COLT Conference, State Convention, and National Convention,” said Horne. “The people are definitely the thing I enjoy the most about FFA. During my time in the blue jacket going to various leadership conferences, conventions, and contests; I’ve been able to meet like-minded people that all share the same passion for wanting to grow as leaders and agriculturists. Some of my best friends have come through this organization, both state, and nationwide.”

Horne also shows pigs and he’s brought home a few awards in his day.

“This year I showed a Berkshire Barrow and a Commercial Gilt. At the county show, my barrow received “reserve breed champion” and my gilt received “reserve supreme champion,” said Horne.

As a student at Morrison High School, Horne is plenty busy with activities including OSSEF State Science Fair, JSHS Oklahoma-Kansas- Nebraska Science Symposium, National History Day, Academic Team, Class Officer, Student Council, FCA, baseball, basketball, serving as school mascot and community service.

Horne plays multiple positions on the baseball team and loves the group of guys on the team.

“What I love most about my team is that we all share the same passion for playing baseball and are willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to win for each other. The guys that are juniors and seniors this year have had three different coaches during their high school careers and so we’ve all gotten to deal with the changes that each coach presented together. I feel like we all have a special bond between us surrounding baseball and that’s my favorite thing about this particular team,” said Horne.
