Perkins-Tryon Demons Football Preview 2023 Presented by Perkins Primary Care

Coach: DAWAYNE HUDSON

9-3

OFFENSE

The Demons have enjoyed some success over the past few seasons and as they head into the 2023 season, they look to continue that. Head coach Dawayne Hudson says that his squad brings back a lot of talent and should have a solid year. “We are coming off back-to-back 9-3 state quarterfinal appearances,” he said. “We are looking to make another run at it this season. We have a good senior class coming back with a good mixture of underclassmen as well.” The offense will be led by the running back duo of Tre Stevenson (6-0, 240, Sr.) and Braiton Applegate (6-0, 170, Jr.). Last season, they combined for 1,665 yards and 19 touchdowns and they will be looking to increase their impact this season. Beck Smith (5-8, 170, Sr.) will play quarterback and will work to drive the ball downfield. One of his targets will be Cutter Greene (6-1, 185, Sr.), who averaged 15 yards per reception last season and totaled five touchdowns. Bryce Lightfoot (6-2, 250, Sr.) and Corbin Reedy (6-2, 230, Jr.) will be the anchors on the offensive line.

DEFENSE

On the defensive side, Greene and Smith will maintain things in the secondary as defensive backs. At the linebacker position, Hagen Cundiff (5-9, 175, Sr.) and Luke Cazelle (5-11, 185, Sr.) will work to shut down the run and pass, depending on what the opponent does. Ethan Dawson (5-10, 255, Sr.) and Stevenson will take care of the dirty work on the defensive line, wreaking havoc on the offense. Assistant coaches this season will be Bryce Hoggatt, Lance Hoggatt, Ethan Caldwell, Aaron Barta, and Erik Holt.
