Perkins-Tryon’s Madi Kastl – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by All Around Cowgirl Boutique

A three-sport student-athlete at Perkins-Tryon High School, senior Madi Kastl also spends a fair amount of time in the FFA chapter at school. Kastl joined FFA in junior high but has spent much of her life in and around the ag life.

“I have been involved in agriculture my whole life. However, I started FFA my eighth-grade year. My ag teachers really helped show me what FFA could do for me and how it could affect me, and I think that was a big deciding factor when joining FFA,” said Kastl.

For Kastl, there are many things she enjoys about being a member of FFA, from the community to the livestock, Kastl said there is something for everyone.

“I really enjoy the lessons and the community FFA brings you. I have been taught respect, kindness, and humbleness throughout my years in FFA. The community is so supportive of this organization, and the friendships I have created through FFA are lifelong,” said Kastl.
“The activities I am in the most is showing pigs, I’ve done judging, I sell blue and gold which is a big fundraiser, I also help out with another big fundraiser which is our pork chop dinner. I have started in swine production as well with keeping some of my show gilts and raising litters to sell for show prospects. In my horticulture class, I have helped get plants ready to sell. Showing has really been my best friend and my worst enemy. The countless hours in the barn can be so rewarding, but also it really tests your patience and responsibility,” said Kastl.

Kastl grew up in a family known for showing pigs, but she didn’t start showing until she was in the eighth grade.

Aside from FFA, Kastl is a member of the cheer team, track, and softball. Being part of the softball team this year was a great experience according to Kastl.
“My team is everything to me. I love each of those girls so much and it truly hurts to know that I’m not going to be playing with them anymore. Something I love about them is the fight to win. We struggled in the beginning to find our spark but once we found that spark it was truly unmatched. I am grateful to be a part of this amazing program. What I love most about being in the program is the family that is made. The girls get so close, and we always have each other’s backs. We have learned many valuable lessons, and how to prioritize,” said Kastl.

Kastl plans to cheer in college and said she is thankful for having great parents in her life.

“I have had so many people shape me into who I am today. However, my biggest influence is my parents. I have four parents instead of two. Each one of them has taught me the most valuable lessons of my life and I cannot thank them enough for getting me where I am today,” said Kastl.
Kastl wants to major in psychology and become a counselor.
