Track star Stephanie Hughes is a senior at Perkins High School. For Stephanie sports is the place that she can let her competitive side take control and thrive.
“Sports is a competitive passion that I have developed over the years,” said Stephanie.
First getting into track when she was in the seventh grade she has not looked back since.
“I like the competitiveness when running,” said Stephanie. “I am super competitive; so running against people is just really fun for me.”
Staying busy is no issue for this student athlete. She is involved in cross country, basketball as a guard, track as a mid-distance runner, NHS, and FCCLA.
“I am in sports because I enjoy being a leader and learning new things,” Stephanie said.
Not only is she busy in her school activities, but she somehow also finds the time to hold down a job.
“I stay motivated by always telling myself not to give up and always reminding myself people look up to me,” said Stephanie.
Knowing younger students and her peers look up to her means a lot to Stephanie.
“When I know people look up to me, it shows that I am a leader and it makes me want to make sure I am the best I can be for people to see,” said Stephanie.
Not only are her parents her greatest support system, but they are also her biggest inspiration.
“I want to be the best I can be for them and make them proud of me in all I do,” said Stephanie.
Making memories, getting to spend time with her friends, and having that great adrenaline rush throughout the track meet are some of Stephanie’s favorite parts of it all.
After high school Stephanie plans to attend Wichita State University and major in early childhood development.
