Perry Maroons Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Seth Wadley Ford Chevy Buick GMC of Perry

Coach: Beau Custar

21-22 Record: 17-9

Entering a new season, the Maroons will call on players to step up and fill the roles vacated by graduating seniors. Head coach Beau Custar knows that if his group is going to be successful, they will have to gel early on. “We have two scorers back this season along with a lot of new faces to go with them,” Custar said. “We have a versatile group that will have to figure out their identity early in the season. While we have the talent, we are lacking experience.”

Bryson Cash (6-2, Sr.) will have to step up a be a leader on the team this season. He is a three-level scorer with improved playmaking abilities. He averaged over eighteen points in playoffs last year on a team that made it to area. Looking to make a comeback after being injured last season is Dezmond Williams (5-10, Sr.). He is an outstanding athlete, a tremendous teammate, always positive with the team, and constantly lifting people up. This season he will play on and off-ball guard roles.

Hayden Garfield (6-2, Jr.) is a great athlete with a tremendous first step. He finishes well around the rim, and has also improved his playmaking and three- point skills over the summer. Working hard to take care of things in the post position will be Whelan Carson (6-4, So.). He is a good athlete, smart, and plays hard every second. His skill set is improving and when everything comes together, he will be a force to be dealt with. An outstanding defensive player, Jaxson Cunningham (5-8, So.) is also a great communicator that has a great understanding of the game with great passion.

Other players that will look to make an impact on the season are Tajon Williams (5-6, So.), Corbin Lewellen (5-10, Sr.), Matthew Larkin (6- 2, So.), Owen Hall (5-9, Jr.), and Bradlee Odle (5-7, Jr.). Kyle Bengs will serve as the assistant coach this season.
