Competing in sports as a high school student means that you are playing for more than just yourself. You are also representing the school whose colors you wear on your uniform. Sarah Davison may be newer to the community of Perry but she does have a special tie to the community.
“I moved to Perry this summer and what it already means to me is to play for the community,” she said. “Even though it’s my first year to live here, my grandparents were raised in this same town and so it’s just a really special thing to get to play in a town that your family down the line has grown up in.”
Sarah is a junior at Perry High School. She currently plays basketball and runs track, but she will be joining the softball team next season. She is also a member of the Student Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
As an athlete, it is no surprise that an influence on Davison’s life is a teammate that she competes alongside.
“One of my biggest role models is Kennedy Hight,” she said. “I got the privilege to play basketball with her this past year and she has taught me so much. Not only is she my best friend on the court but also off. She brings a type of energy and competitiveness that I have never seen before and it was the best experience ever to be able to play alongside her for her last year of high school.”
Since beginning to play basketball as a young kid, Sarah has worked hard to become the athlete that she is today.
“I have been playing basketball since I was about eight years old,” she stated. “I would say it has taken dedication and the motivation to get better on my own time and putting in work that nobody sees.”
One thing that keeps her working hard is remembering those that helped her get to where she is.
“Something that motivates me is seeing the sacrifices my parents have made to give me the opportunities I have today.”
