Stillwater’s Julia Thornton Athlete Spotlight Presented by Stillwater Women’s Clinic

Julicia Thornton  – Stillwater High School

by Trina Walker

Team building is a valuable part of any athletics program. It takes trust on and off the court for a team to reach their full potential. It is this trust that Julicia Thornton loves most about her volleyball team at Stillwater High School.

“I’m passionate about this sport because of all the important relationships it has given me as well as the important life lessons it has taught me. My sport has taught me to be patient and have faith in the abilities God has given me,” she said. The best advice anyone has ever given her is to always bring Jesus on the court!

As a senior at SHS, Julicia proudly represents her school and community as an athlete. “It’s more than just about me as a player,” she says, “but as Stillwater as a whole.”

Julicia began playing volleyball in second grade with her best friend, Samantha Knott. Today she has many memories of playing volleyball, fun bus rides and hotels stays with her team.

She feels blessed to have experienced the influence of teammates like Olive Price. “She (Olive) pushes me to be my best and is not afraid to tell me when I need to step up,” says Julicia.

Other influencers in Julicia’s life include LA Clippers player, Kawhi Leonard, because of his sense of humor. Her favorite teacher was her 10th grade newspaper teacher Mr. Davis.

Julicia is grateful to her family for making many sacrifices in order for her to play volleyball. She would love to be able to give back to them by taking a family vacation to Greece. She is involved in many school activities including track and field, Beta club, and National Honor Society. When not busy with SHS activities, Julicia says she just looks forward to enjoying her all-time favorite meal, ”my mom’s homemade shrimp tacos!”
