Teacher of the Month: Stillwater’s Lora Frost – Presented by Simmons Bank

By Derrick Smith

Lora Frost has been teaching for over thirty years and during that time she has been handed a lot of different bits of advice. Out of all of it, she says that there is one piece of advice that has stuck with her the most.

“Deal with difficult situations and then file them away,” she said. “Students deserve a fresh start each time you work together. That is definitely my favorite piece of advice that I have been given.”

Frost is a Special Education teacher at Stillwater High School. She says that she chose to teach in that field because she has a passion for helping individuals with hidden disabilities. Before teaching at Stillwater High School for eight years, she also taught at Stillwater Junior High for 27 years, Sangre Ridge for two years, Highland Park for one year, and New Holstein, Wisconsin for two years.

Over her years, Frost has made a lot of great memories in the classroom, but she says that there is one part that she has enjoyed the most.

“Helping students accomplish those things they didn’t think they could is really rewarding,” she stated. “Seeing them build the confidence to tackle and overcome challenges. Successful teaching involves creative outside-the-box thinking and successful teamwork. Our team at SHS is amazing.”

Deciding to get into the teaching profession was not just something that she chose to do. Instead, Frost says that her life was impacted by the teachers she had as a student.

“My Journalism, Drama, and English teachers all played a big part in my life and me becoming a teacher,” she said. “Having great teachers can make a big difference in your life.”

She and her husband Dale have two sons and one grandson. When she is not teaching, Lora enjoys reading, gardening, fishing, and visiting Oklahoma’s State Parks
