Yale’s Maggie Morrow – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Central Rural Electric Cooperative

By Derrick Smith

There is a lot of work that goes into being a successful athlete. While there are times that it can get frustrating or you feel like you want to take some time off or quit, you have to remember what your motivation is and why you do what you do. Maggie Morrow is a dual sport athlete at Yale High School where she plays basketball and runs track, and she works hard for those she competes with.

“I work hard because I want to make myself and the people around me proud,” she said. “I hold myself to a high standard, so I have to work to keep them.  I also work to understand both sports to the best of my ability. I work on technique and practice often to get better at what I am working to achieve.”

Morrow is a sophomore and plays the post position on the basketball court and on the track team she throws the shot put and discus for the Bulldogs.

While she has put in a lot of work, Maggie says that she has had help along the way and that is part of the reason for her success.

“Both of my coaches have played big roles in my success,” she stated. “Coach Moore, my track coach, and coach Garner, my basketball coach, are big influences in my life. They both help me tremendously with so much. My teammates are also great influences and help me to be better at both sports. On the track team, my throwing partner, Mason, taught me a lot of the techniques and things to know about throwing.”

Away from sports, Morrow is a member of the Beta Club and the yearbook. She says that she also enjoys following different people on social media, but she does not feel that she has just one that she likes the most.
“I don’t really think I have a favorite,” she said. “I follow lots of people for different reasons. I follow NBA players, artists, and comedians. I like all of their content for different reasons.”
