Blackwell’s Kellyn Botts – North OK Athlete Spotlight – Presented By BancFirst Blackwell

By Derrick Smith

Kellyn Botts says that the people that have made the biggest impact on her life are those that have been a major part of her life.

“My mom and dad would have to be my biggest role models,” she said. “They have raised me to be the woman I am today. My big sister Hadley is another one because she works with me to help me become a better player.”

Botts is a sophomore at Blackwell High School, where she is a multi-sport athlete. She plays wing on the basketball court, third base and left field on the softball field, and as a member of the track team, she runs the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

For Botts, becoming the athlete that she is today is not something that just happened. It was earned through many hours of practice and work.

“There is a lot that goes into becoming an outstanding athlete,” she said. “For me, it has been showing up to morning workouts, summer pride, practices, and trying to always give one hundred percent no matter what.”

Kellyn has made some great memories over the years with her teammates, both on and off the court. But she says she says that seeing the work pay off is probably her favorite thing.

“I have put in a lot of work throughout my career,” she said. “Having the opportunity to start on the varsity team as a freshman was a great feeling, knowing that I had earned that with my work.”

When she is not playing sports, Kellyn is also involved around campus. She is a member of the Pep Club, student council, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America program, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

“I am truly thankful for my family and my friends,” Botts said. “They are always there for me and pushing me to be my best.”
