Ponca City’s Trevor Rowe – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Ponca City Specialty Clinic

By Derrick Smith

Trevor Rowe has played the game of baseball for about 12 years. Over that span of time, he has seen his game continually improve and get better. While some of his game is natural skill, he has put in a lot of work.

“I have done a lot to get where I am today,” he said. “Working out five days a week along with catching lessons every Sunday and hitting on Saturdays. It takes a lot of extra work if you want to be your best.”

Trevor is a junior at Shidler High School. He plays catcher, pitcher, and third base for the school’s baseball team.

There have been a few people that have had an impact on Rowe as both a baseball player and a person.

“Yadier Molina is a role model that I look up to,” he said. “I have watched him since I was little and I just thought he was the best catcher in a long time. He is such a good player. I want to play just like he does. Another person that I look up to is ‘Coach O,’ my head coach. He has taught me how to play the game the right way and also to be a good all-around person.”

Along with playing for Shidler, Rowe has also played for Oklahoma Fuel, Oklahoma Braves, and Oklahoma Sandlot. He also attended the Cowley College Showcase, OSU Showcase, and he practiced with the Seminole State College and Rose State College teams.

Shidler head baseball coach Colby O’Donnell says that Rowe is an outstanding athlete, wherever he plays.

“Trevor plays both catcher and pitcher for us,” the coach said. “He can hit for average or power. He does a great job of controlling the game from behind the plate. He had double digit home runs last spring and I expect another solid season this year as well.”
