Q & A with Ponca City’s Audrey Varner Presented by Phillips 66 Ponca City

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

Audrey Varner: I’ve had several good coaches throughout my years of playing softball. One of my favorites is Sara Bell because she introduced me to the game and allowed me to love it. Coach Bell showed us the importance of being a team on and off the field.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

AV: I admire so many of my teammates but one teammate that I can always count on for support is Ava O’Neill. Ava is always willing to put in extra work with me and I can’t think of a game when Ava didn’t give 100% effort and focus.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?

AV: Mr. McCrary hands down has to be my favorite teacher. I love how he is always welcoming and makes learning fun and easy!

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

AV: I have spent many hours with my Epic 2k7 travel team. I also ran track to help with my speed and hit the batting cage and indoor facility every change I got!

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

AV: Softball has taught me that attitude and effort is contagious so always go out with the best attitude and push to be the hardest worker. Hard work and preparation will always payoff. HYDRATE.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

AV: The 7th grade championship game of the Ponca City Tournament, down by 1, runner on third, bottom of the 5th. The amazing Kodi Elam with a home-run bunt and RBI! The crowd goes wild!

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?

AV: Winning is always a goal but just continuing to build our skill set and get stronger physically and mentally.

VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?

AV: Jenks was at the top of the list of teams we wanted to defeat since they beat us out at regionals last season.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

AV: I would love to continue my education and softball career in college.
