By Payton Moody

Mike Montano is a dedicated educator whose passion for teaching and coaching shines through in his role as the High School Strength and Conditioning instructor for all sports at Ponca City. With a wealth of experience and a commitment to making a positive impact, Montano’s journey has been marked by valuable life lessons.

In his second year at Ponca City, Montano brings years of knowledge to his role. He has previously taught at Quinton Public Schools for two years and Sallisaw Public Schools for four years, demonstrating a deep-rooted dedication to education and student development.

Reflecting on his own experiences as a student, Montano acknowledges the teachers and coaches who influenced his path. “Mostly my football coaches, they taught me a lot of life lessons,” he said. These formative interactions laid the foundation for Montano’s approach to education – one that extends beyond academics to the realm of character-building and personal growth.

In his current role, Montano finds fulfillment in guiding his students toward meaningful life lessons. “Teaching them life lessons and making an impact on my students,” he said. This sentiment echoes his own transformative experiences and underscores his commitment to being a positive influence on the next generation.

When asked about the best advice he’s received in regard to teaching, Montano imparts a powerful mantra: “Always walk into the storm and through it. Never away from it.” This philosophy encapsulates his approach to challenges, both in the classroom and in life – a testament to his resilience and dedication.

Outside of teaching and coaching, Montano finds solace and enjoyment in staying active and cooking. Whether he’s hitting the gym or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, his diverse interests reflect his dynamic approach to life.

As Montano continues to shape the lives of his students through education and coaching, his unwavering commitment to their growth is evident. With a heart dedicated to imparting valuable lessons and a mindset that embraces challenges, Mike Montano stands as an inspiring educator in the Ponca City community.
