Woodland’s Trey Bennett – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Phillips 66

By: Hunter Ferguson

Woodland baseball player Trey Bennett spoke to VYPE about his life in a recent interview explaining “My favorite part about the team is being able to win with the guys I grew up with”. Specifically, Aidan and Jackson Rhodes who “were the guys who left the best impression on me because they pushed me to be the best and they helped me with my faith in Jesus Christ,” said Bennett.

As he aims to “be the best Trey Bennett and to influence the young kids around me” he is reflecting on all he has accomplished to this point. Recalling a favorite athletic memory of his which was “When I hit a go-ahead 3-run homer in regionals last year”. Moments like that keep him striving for greatness and looking for ways to better himself.

According to Bennett, he once received a piece of advice that did just that – it went something like this. “To be the man you gotta beat the man” from Coach Brock. This stuck with him and he carries it into all of his pursuits.

Not only have the words of his coach affected the way Bennett plays the game and how he carries himself in the world at large, but he also credits the younger generation. Saying “The younger kids around me inspire me because they look up to me and that alone makes me go out into the world and try to be a better person”.

“Athletics have brought me discipline and I’m able to be a better man because of that,” said Bennett.
