Cleveland’s Brock Powell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Cowley College

By Chance Burk

Brock Powell is a senior at Cleveland High School. He is part of Cleveland’s football, wrestling, and track and field teams. Brock is also a consistent A/B student and he loves participating in everything at his school. Outside of school, Brock also likes to hang out with family and friends, work out, go fishing, and hunt.

Football was love at first sight for Brock. He started playing in fourth grade and it has been his passion ever since. “Since I was little that’s all I wanted to do, play football,” said Brock. Not only has football been a passion for him, it has been a dream come true. “I remember watching high school games and dreaming of the day I could play on that field,” said Brock.

Where Brock finds most of his motivation to succeed in sports, school, and life is from his family and teammates. “They all try to push me to be the best I can be and I’m very grateful for that,” said Brock. Another big source of motivation for Brock is his faith. “I am baptized and am a believer in Jesus,” said Brock about his faith. He also is a part of his church’s youth group and enjoys going every week.

Brock has had multiple role models during his life but his parents are the ones that have had the biggest impact on him. “They’ve taught me to never give up and they push me to be the best I can be,” said Brock. He is thankful for his father teaching him to be strong and how to be a man and for his mother teaching him patience.

Aside from his parents, Brock’s most important family members are his late grandparents. They both passed away during Covid, and it had a major impact on Brock’s life. Brock is very thankful for everything they did for him, everything they taught him, and for the memories they shared. “They were my best friends and I would spend most weekends at their house. They also took me to all my Little League games when my parents were working,” said Brock about some of the memories they shared.

In the future, Brock hopes to earn a scholarship to play sports at the collegiate level. If Brock is unable to get a scholarship he plans to attend a trade school and learn the skills to become a tradesman. Brock has the drive, the skill, and the support to live a happy and successful life.
