High school athletes always have someone that they look up to. It could be a professional or collegiate athlete that plays the same sport as them, a celebrity that they look up to or respect, or even someone in their family. Logan Sutherland says that the person he looks up to the most is a player in the NBA.
“My biggest role model is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder,” he said. “He is my favorite player and I really respect his game.”
Logan is a sophomore at Deer Creek-Lamont High School. He competes in football, basketball, and track for the Eagles. As a multisport athlete, he enjoys all his sports, but he does have a favorite.
“I have played football and basketball, and ran track most of my life,” he said. “But out of all three, basketball is definitely the one I like the most.”
Being a three sport athlete can require a lot of work and dedication throughout the year. Sutherland also says there is more that goes into being successful than just the work.
“I put in a lot of work in my free time,” he said. You have to have a good attitude and be a team player also. My biggest motivation is my family and friends because I want to do my best for them. And lastly, coach Jones has helped make me a better basketball player.”
There have been a number of memories that Logan has made throughout his career. But he says that out of all of them, there is one that he cherishes the most.
“I would have to say that the highlight of my career would have to be when I hit my career high in points in basketball,” he recalled. “It was great to see my hard work pay off and be able to help my team.”
When he and his teammates compete, they are ready to face whoever is on the schedule. But Logan says that there is one team he enjoys getting the win against the most.
“Medford is the team I want to beat the most,” he said. “They are our rivals.”
