Ponca City Basketball Preview – Presented By Phillips 66

BOYS
Coach: Ivan McFarlin
20-21 Record: 6-10

As the Wildcats and head coach Ivan McFarlin return a team full of seniors, expectations are growing, and the team is hungry to show what they can accomplish. “This year is fully loaded with seniors and lots of experience to go around,” said coach McFarlin. “This year’s team has a lot of pieces to go deep in the playoffs. I can’t wait for the journey to begin.” Grant Dye (6-7, Sr.) is a player who can play several different positions. As a junior, Dye averaged 14 points, 5.0 rebounds a game and shot 53 percent from the three-point line. Mason Meador (6-2, Jr.) has shown improvements over the summer and is a player expected to perform at a high-level this season. Matthew Shoup (6-5, Jr.) averaged 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. Shoup is a key to the overall success this season. Brooks Revard (6-1, Sr.) and Nate Patel (5-6, Sr.) are two guards to watch this season. They are both very good shooters. Tay Moore (6-2, So.) is another combo player who can shoot the three. Also watch Lane Briggs (6-1, Jr.) who is an all-around hard worker and has a nice mid-range jumper in his arsenal. Other players to watch include Trevor Kubik and Raecyn Fisher.

GIRLS
Coach: Jody Fincher
20-21 Record: 7-7

Ponca City returns a limited amount of experience, but they do have some young talent with potential to develop into a good team. “We have a young team with only one senior and junior with experience,” said coach Fincher. “We do have three sophomores who got a lot of game time last year. We will have a nice mix of athletes and shooters which will be good for us in our conference. This group is working hard and determined to get back to the state tournament.” Ashlynn Fincher (5-6, Sr.) averaged 10 points and 3.0 assists last year from her guard spot. Emma Gertken (5-6, Jr.) averaged 7.0 points and 3.0 assists as well. Fincher and Gertken will lead the team and be responsible for helping younger players mature into roles as starters. Kyra Allison (5-7, So.) has had a big presence on the boards averaging 8.0 rebounds with 6.0 points and 3.0 steals a game. Another player to watch is Sarah Dingus (5-7, So.) at forward. Dingus was effective at knocking down 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds with 3.0 steals to her credit. Lanie George (5-7, So.) averaged 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds last season. Her numbers are expected to climb this year.
