Ripley’s Beau Burch – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Central Rural Electric Cooperative

By Scott Metz

Ripley High School senior Beau Burch is a multisport athlete, playing both baseball and basketball for the Ripley Warriors. In baseball, Beau plays both the positions of right-handed pitcher, and shortstop. For basketball, Beau is a power forward. Many would consider Beau a veteran of both sports, having played both baseball and basketball since the first grade.

As to what motivates Beau, he stated, “What motivates me is the fear of failing. I hate to lose, disappoint, or let down my team or the people rooting for me.”

In high school sports, many memories are made. For Beau, one particular moment stands out from the rest. Beau recalled, “The highlight moment of my career was hitting a half- court shot to send the team into the Area Tournament my junior year.”

Most high school athletes have a teacher that has made a difference in their life. Beau stated, “The teacher that has had the biggest impact on my life is Mrs. Burch. The reason I chose her is because she happens to be my mom. She has been my teacher as long as I can remember. Whether it be in the classroom or at home, she has built me into the person I am today.”

When it comes to representing his school and his community, when he plays sports, Beau stated, “It means that you are playing for something bigger than yourself. You become a reflection of the community by the way you act and carry yourself on and off the court or field. You are playing for the name on the front of your jersey, your teammates, and the fans in the stands.”

Besides playing both baseball and basketball, Beau is heavily involved in other activities at Ripley High School. Beau stated, “I am the Student Council President and Senior Class Vice President. I am also a member of Business Professionals of America, Yearbook, and the Ripley Academic Society.”

After graduating from high school, Beau plans on pursing higher education. Beau explained, “After high school I plan to continue my academic and athletic career at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. There I will major in business and play baseball.”
