Carolyn and Kendyl Overton are twins and they are a part of the Ripley High School softball team. Let’s get to know them a little better.
VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?
Carolyn: My mom influenced me to be a kind and hardworking person. She has always been the one to learn and grow with me in this sport. I am very grateful for the hours she has spent with me.
Kendyl: My biggest role model is my mom. She is my number one fan and my best friend.
VYPE:What has it taken to be successful in your sports?
Carolyn: It has taken a lot of time. Lessons, traveling and staying after practices. The extra time you put in outside of practices and games is how you become successful.
Kendyl: Hard work, dedication, determination, and a strong mindset is what has brought my career to where it is now. I have poured hours into my athletic career because I refuse to be average.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?
Carolyn: It means to me that I am representing something bigger than just myself. Playing for my school and team gives me the motivation to work hard. I am proud to play for this program at Ripley.
Kendyl: Playing for my school and community is a hard feeling to describe. It is the best kind of pressure to feel, knowing that they are relying on me to step up and bring success means they trust me and my preparation.
VYPE: What has been the highlight moment of your career?
Carolyn: Winning the 2020 Fastpitch Softball State Championship.
Kendyl: I would have to say that the highlight moment of my career would be collecting the last out in the State championship game my freshman year to win Ripley its first ever state title in any woman’s sport.
