Stillwater’s Lucy Darr – Golf Spotlight – Presented by Cowley College

Lucy Darr came up just short in her bid as a Class 6A golf state champion in May.

The Stillwater junior finished 10 strokes behind champion Lisa Herman of Jenks, shooting a two-round score of 151. Darr opened with a 76 and followed with a 75.

Darr was disappointed with the outcome, but she was leaps and bounds better than her sophomore year at the state tournament when she didn’t finish inside the top 15.

“I was a little disappointed to come up short of a state title but I’ve made lots of improvements since my sophomore year,” Darr said. “My sophomore year I wasn’t good enough to finish in the top 15 at state.”

She has one more year to reach the top and claim a state title. Stillwater finished fourth in the team standings, trailing Jenks, Edmond North and Edmond Memorial.

“My goal is to win a state championship with my team,” said Darr, who has played golf for fun since eighth grade, but competitively for just over a year and says her top strength is driving the ball really far. “My teammates are my best friends and I’m thankful for every single one of them.”

“What I love most about being a student athlete is representing my school and trying to bring home some trophies,” Darr added.

Darr, the Golfer of the Year in her conference, eats, breathes and sleeps the game of golf. It’s even her favorite thing to do during her free time.

Once Darr graduates from Stillwater she has a golf future at Oklahoma State University where she is verbally committed.
