Perkins – Tryon Mallory Marshall – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Perkins Primary Care

By Derrick Smith

Mallory Marshall is in her senior year at Perkins-Tryon High School. She is a multisport athlete as a member of the cheer, track, and basketball teams. She says that while her sports require a lot of work and time, those around her help keep her motivated.

“My family is the biggest motivation for me,” she said. “They push me to be the best version of myself that I can be and I don’t want to let them down. For me to be where I am today has taken many hours in the off season with Joey Graham and also just being mentally tough.”

While she has put in a lot of work, Marshall is also quick to give credit to her teammates for the success she has had.

“I have some outstanding teammates,” she stated. “The teammate I enjoy going against at practice the most would have to be my sister Kyndall Marshall. She makes me work and doesn’t let me slack off, no matter what.”

Playing multiple sports allows Mallory to have a lot of experiences while competing. She has had some great moments but has one that stands out as her favorite.

“I would have to say that a highlight moment in my career was when I got my first varsity minutes as a freshman on the basketball court. I hit two three-pointers in a row and had a solid first game.”

Marshall has had some outstanding influences on her life that have helped her become the person and the athlete that she is today.

“The biggest role models are my mom and dad,” she said. “They push me the hardest. Also Shaunna Smith and Latrisha Rasmussen because they always have a positive attitude and are encouraging, that makes me want to go hard for them. The most impactful teacher for me has been Sarah Jackson because you can talk to her about anything without judgement and she always encourages you to be a better person and friend.”

Marshall is also a member of the Nation Honor Society, serves as class vice president, and is part of yearbook.
