Q&A with Stillwater’s Cody Moore – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Derek Rasmussen Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance

By: Hunter Ferguson

Stillwater soccer player Cody Moore spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

I tore my ACL in September in a Midwest soccer tournament. One of my goals for the year is to come back and play at the end of my senior soccer season at Stillwater High School.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory was the conversations my team and I had on the bus ride home after we beat Jenks 2-1. We were underdogs during the season and upset Jenks at districts.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

During my freshman year, the captains of the high school soccer Christopher O’Neil and Ethan Hicks had the biggest impression on me. Not only did they show me the elite level I could play at during high school, but they also showed me how to be an excellent leader and lead a team. They both showed by example by setting high standards on and off the field. Which is a key factor in how I lead my team today.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part about being on the Stillwater High School soccer team is talking and spending time with my friends.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I have participated in community service by volunteering at our daily bread.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

One thing my sport has taught me is how to respond positively to adversity. I use this every day. Every day there is something that happens that I haven’t planned for. Instead of reacting negatively, I respond with a positive attitude.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice I have ever received was from my coach and my parents and it’s be yourself/ be the best version of yourself in every situation.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

My dad inspires me the most by showing me a hard work ethic and passion. When you commit to anything he shows me how to buy in into culture and beliefs. He also shows how to be a great man.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I want to give a shout-out to my best friends and teammates who I’ve played with since we’ve been in third grade Corbin Phillips, Wyatt Miller, Griffin Condley, Kase Williams, Marco Uscanga Lopez. I also want to shout out Coach Seth Condley, who has been an excellent role model in my life raising me into the person and player I am today.
