Stillwater’s Bess Glenn – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Stillwater Family Care

By Derrick Smith

There are people in all of our lives that help shape us into the person that we are today. These people are more than just the people we watch play sports or other celebrities, they are usually people we are close to and spend time with. Bess Glenn’s parents are the ones that have impacted her life the most.

“My biggest influences are definitely my parents,” she said. “They show me day in and day out how to be a servant to others and how to be supportive. For the past four club volleyball seasons, my parents drove me all the way to Oklahoma City or Tulsa for every one of my practices. My dad is the hardest worker I have ever met. He is always ready to drop what he is doing to help me practice in the backyard or just help me with whatever life problems I am dealing with. My mom is loving towards every person she meets, and that inspires me to love others and show them kindness. I could not have asked for better parents and I am so extremely thankful that the Lord blessed me with my parents.”

Glenn is a junior at Stillwater High School, where she plays outside hitter for the volleyball team. She is in her fifth season of playing volleyball and says that it has taken a lot of work in order to become the player she is today.

“It has taken lots of time to be successful in volleyball,” she said. “I have spent many hours in my backyard with my dad, just getting as many reps as possible. Volleyball has been a major time commitment in my life, especially since I play for clubs that are over an hour away.”

Away from sports, Bess is also involved in other groups around her campus. She is a part of Stillwater Makes A Change, a student-led organization at SHS that raises money for a different benefactor each year. She is also on the executive team for Beta Club and she is a member of the student council, FCCLA, National Honor Society, and the youth group at Sunnybrook Christian Church.
