Stillwater’s Martin Aguilera Andrade – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst Stillwater

There are moments in an athlete’s career that make an impact on them and they will not soon forget. For some it could be championships or accomplishments, while for others it could be seeing some improvement on something they have worked on hard. Martin Aguilera Andrade says that his favorite memory from playing soccer is when his team was successful.

“In my career, one of the best highlights has been winning a tournament with my team,” he stated. “Because the year before that we didn’t make it as far in any tournaments but with hard training and dedication we managed to win.”

Andrade is a junior at Stillwater High School, where he is a member of the Pioneer’s soccer team. He plays all around the midfield, center midfielder, attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, left midfielder, and right midfielder. He is also a member of the Stillwater Soccer Club team. Outside of sports, he is a member of the French and Spanish clubs at Stillwater High.

As a soccer athlete, Martin has a number of players that he looks up to.

“One of my biggest role models is Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said. “He is one of the best players ever, his speed, discipline by training more than everybody else, scoring his penalties and just being ready to score for the team like the way he kicks the ball and his athleticism, Lionel Messi as well because he is one of the best players as well, his dribbling, free kick, vision and Soccer IQ is just amazing and his leadership skills, and El Chicharito because he is one of the best Mexican players ever and my favorite Mexican player ever because I grew up watching him, and it inspired me to play soccer as well.”

Becoming who he is today on the field is not something that just happened. Instead, Martin has worked hard to be his best.

“What has taken me to achieve some of my goals so far and be successful in soccer is being punctual, disciplined, respectful, teamwork, problem solving, and just training and playing at a high intensity.”
