Tatum Kennedy

Yale High School

Yale, Oklahoma is no stranger to producing great athletes. One of the greatest, Jim Thorpe, called Yale home from 1917 to 1923 during the early years of the oil boom that forced the population of Yale to swell as more people arrived to work the fields. Now over 100 years old, Yale High School is home to several student-athletes leaving their own legacy of success for future generations to follow. One such athlete is Tatum Kennedy, a track athlete, cheerleader and member of the FFA chapter at YHS.

Kennedy first got involved in FFA when during her first year of high school.

“I became involved with Yale FFA my freshmen year of high school. My ag teacher, Mr. Fuss, really pushed me to become more involved, and to just keep trying new things,” said Kennedy.

Now serving as a chapter officer, Kennedy said there are many reasons students should get involved in FFA.

“Definitely the lessons you learn and the memories you make with your chapter members. I’m a chapter officer and I do speaking competitions,” said Kennedy.

As a member of the track team, Kennedy is enjoying her sophomore season representing the Bulldogs on the trackcompeting in the long jump and the 100-meter dash. As a cheerleader, Kennedy joined the squad this year and plans to return next season. Aside from sports, Kennedy is a member of FCA, another student led organization at school.

The sophomore said her family supports her in everything she does, and she is grateful for their support.

My mom is definitely my biggest influence. She’s an amazing person and sets a great example for me and my sister,” said Kennedy.

Kennedy plans to attend Oklahoma State University once she graduates from YHS. Until then, Kennedy plans to continue competing and representing Yale HS is FFA and sports.

“I love how supportive my teammates are; they’ve helped me so much this first year being on the track team. As for FFA, anyone interested should just do it. You won’t regret,” said Kennedy.
